I acknowledge the Darkinjung people as the Traditional Custodians of this land, where I live, work, and dance. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. May we move with gratitude, knowing that dance, like culture, is a living expression of connection, spirit, and belonging.
At Body Jnana, we believe in the deep connection between the mind and body, recognising that our bodies hold the memories of our experiences. Through Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), we explore how our physical sensations, behaviours, and thoughts are all intertwined, offering a holistic approach to self-awareness and transformation. Our bodies often lay the foundation for how we feel, think, and behave—shaping our emotional and cognitive experiences.
We use DMT techniques to help people tune into their bodies, noticing the sensations they feel and the movements they make. This awareness allows individuals to better understand the relationship between their inner and outer worlds.
By exploring these patterns, clients can begin to identify and express emotions, uncover thought-behaviour cycles, and reframe limiting beliefs. This process encourages emotional regulation, shifts unhelpful behaviours, and fosters a deeper connection between the body, mind, and spirit—providing an integrated pathway to healing and growth.
We Support: Parkinson’s/Stroke, Dementia, Neurodiversity Learning Difficulties, Mental Health, Special Needs and NDIS Participants.
Benefits: Body Awareness, Sensory Integration, Emotional Wellbeing, Improved Speech, Increased Mobility, Social Connection, Holistic Support.
I have always found solace and self-expression through movement and dance. Since my earliest memories, I have been blessed with an instinctive and profound connection to my body. An innate and acute awareness of my physical being, coupled with a deep understanding of music and rhythms, made me feel as though I possessed a superpower, something truly extraordinary and personal to me. I was “home” inside of myself.
One of my most cherished childhood memories unfolded in my grandparents' pool. There, I discovered the remarkable connection between my body and the water, as if I could seamlessly merge with its fluidity. I would dive into the air, feeling the exhilaration of soaring before plunging into the water's embrace.
Yet, as life unfolded I encountered various challenges, I gradually became disconnected from that innate connection. Difficult experiences and later medical trauma, propelled me into a state of dissociation—a profound disconnection from the very essence of who I was. With this loss of connection, I also noticed a decline in my mental well-being. It was during this time that I embarked on a path of self-discovery, yearning to reunite with the home I had lost within myself.
My journey has been a continuous work in progress, Through unwavering determination and a thirst for healing, I have found my way back to the sanctuary of my body. This transformative process has not only brought me home but has also sparked a deep passion within me. I am now dedicated to guiding others on their paths of self-discovery and healing.
Today, I am grateful that I have reclaimed my sense of self and purpose. I am joyful "home in my body," basking in the harmonious union of movement, expression, and well-being. As I explore new horizons and unearth the depths of my journey, I strive to inspire others to embrace their unique power and find their way back home within themselves. x

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a form of therapy that uses movement
modalities to promote emotional, physical, cognitive, social, and cultural well-being.
It recognises the interconnectedness of the mind/body/spirit and offers a non-verbal and
expressive way to process emotions, improve self-awareness, enhance self-esteem, and
promote overall mental and physical well-being.
Dance movement therapists are trained to combine different elements of dance, movement
systems, creative processes, and psychological and scientific theories to cater to the specific
needs /goals of individuals and groups.
They work with clients in a variety of settings including clinical, institutional, community and private settings.
In Australasia, the DTAA (Dance Therapy Association of Australasia) only recognises
Associate, Provisional Professional and Professional level members as ethically credentialed
to deliver dance movement therapy.
DMT can benefit individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It can be particularly helpful for those seeking emotional healing, personal growth, stress reduction improved self-expression, communication, body image issues, trauma recovery, and those interested in exploring the mind-body connection through movement..
Clients with ASD, DMT help improve regulation, body awareness, and social engagement through structured movement activities and sensory integration techniques.
Those with learning difficulties benefit from enhanced motor coordination, self-expression, and self-esteem.
Post-stroke clients often experience improved mobility, balance, and cognitive engagement.
For individuals with Alzheimer’s, movement can stimulate memory, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of connection.
DMT also offers a gentle, creative outlet to manage chronic pain, helping clients reconnect with their bodies in a compassionate and empowering way.
Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes long, while group therapy sessions may be longer. The length of each session may vary depending on the needs of the client.
Dance movement therapy differs from traditional talk therapy by emphasising the use of the body and movement as primary tools for therapeutic exploration. While talk therapy primarily relies on verbal communication, dance movement therapy incorporates non-verbal expression, body sensations, and the exploration of movement patterns.
No prior dance experience is required to participate in dance movement therapy. The focus is not on technical dance skills, but rather on using movement as a therapeutic tool. Individuals with any level of movement experience or ability can engage in dance movement therapy.
